Juniors: Cwm Draig 6-14 Welsh Wanderers

The junior Dragons faced the stern test of Welsh Wanderers in a home league clash. Over the years, this fixture has brought out an intriguing contest between the two clubs. The junior squad has been consistently improving, season after season. However, with many players now being too old to play for the junior squad, it is arguably a much tougher task for the team to progress.

First Quarter

The Dragons had a nightmare start. Lethargic and rather sluggish. Our slow start only enticed the opposition to expose us and they did with devistating effect. Our squad failed to score in the opening quarter and could only muster three shots, while at the other end, Welsh Wanderers took full advantage and raced into a 4-0 lead. It was already looking like one-way traffic.

Third Quarter

This was our best quarter as we matched Welsh Wanderers for goals. The Dragons were showing signs of improvement and scored two goals on the bounce to reduce the deficit to four goals. However, the visitors hit back and scored two goals themselves to equal the Dragons' tally during this period. The team looked much sharper in this period, as opposed to the previous two. Looked more alert in defence as and was more capable of snuffing out danger. However, we could have won this quarter if we had made better use of our two extra player situations.

Summary

The Dragons were brushed aside by the team from the capital. The team started slowly and struggled to get a foothold throughout the entire game, only showed glimpses of quality.
