Since the summer of 2024, a collaboration has been developed between South Whales Swim School and Cwm Draig Water Polo Club.

A previous Swim Wales School of the Year award winner, SWSS were eager to offer their swimmers an alternative aquactic route in the form of water polo, and so, got in touch with Cwm Draig to be an external provider of the sport. The collaboration with SWSS began with a couple of week-long crash course in water polo at the swimming pool facility in Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School, with the first ones in Summer 2024. The collaboration progressed and saw Cwm Draig visit SWSS during term time, delivering a session every three weeks. Due to popular demand and SWSS' continued committment to water polo inclusion and development, the sport earned the 6:30 - 7:30 slot in the Whales' Tuesday schedule.

Our link with the Whales comes in the form of Matthew Griffiths, who represents Cwm Draig as the external provider of water polo for SWSS. Matthew has introduced the sport to SWSS swimmers and creates a fun, adaptable and challenging for all levels. In January 2026, the Whales played in a friendly match with Matthew as Head Coach against our newly-formed Junior Squad, in what was the first ever game for both teams. The match resulted in a 20-7 triumph for the Dragons and marked another milestone in the Cwm Draig-SWSS collaboration.
